In efforts to enhance accessibility of ICT training, the VETA Kipawa Institute of ICT is planning to introduce e-mobile learning system at the centre.
Speaking to VETA e-News recently, the Principal of VETA Kipawa Institute of ICT, Eng. Lucius Luteganya said that the system provides convenience and personalized learning environment to trainees through the use of devices like mobile phones, tablets, and laptops.
“This system allows students to learn anywhere, anytime and at their own convenience. It provides personalized learning environment and supports offline learning,…….,” he said.
He said VETA Kipawa will hire expertise  from mElimu of Kenya which has experience of the system. He said the Institute plans to introduce the system step-by-step starting with NTA level 5 in October 2015.
Trainees will be provided with lecture notes via their tablets, mobile phones or laptops, to read and learn and then go to the centre mainly for practical sessions.
Speaking about the system, Rajeev Gupta an expert from mElimu Kenya said the system is efficient, affordable and proactive that allows students to learn at their comfort, understanding their topics, doing and submitting their assignments, and participating in quizzes via mobile divices.
He said, to the teacher the system helps to widen his/her teaching spectrum and serves time as one can share  information and teaching materials to a large number of students at  a  scratch .
mElimu is a learning management platform that offers a fully packaged learning management solution including hosting, technical support, user support and training.
According to Gupta, mElimu addresses limitations of the traditional system in terms of infrastructure, feedback, technology and teacher’s burden. He said, the traditional system needs computer, internet and electricity all the time while it has limited feedback system, works as content engine and has no personalized learning.
Also, he said the traditional system uses old devices and increases teacher’s burden, giving him/her extra work for content development and delivery.
However, with the modernized mElimu system, there is quality education provision through an affordable, scalable, and adaptive learning system.
